Track Your Grade Using The 4.0 System

Step One:  Use the following template to calculate the total amount of points possible at any given time during the semester.

Letter One ~ 12% x 4.0 = 48 points

Letter Two ~ 12% x 4.0 = 48 points

Letter Three ~ 12% x 4.0 = 48 points

Letter Four ~ 12% x 4.0 = 48 points

LAR ~ 27% x 4.0 = 108 points

Final Exam ~ 25% x 4.0 = 100 points

Total = 400 points

Step Two:  Use the following template to calculate the amount of points you have earned at any given time during the semester.  Replace the sample grades with your own grades.

Letter One ~ 12% x 3.0 = 36 points

Letter Two ~ 12% x 2.0 = 24 points

Letter Three ~ 12% x 2.5 = 30 points

Letter Four ~ 12% x 3.7 = 44.4 points

LAR ~ 27% x 3.3 = 89.1 points

Final Exam ~ 25% x 3.0 = 75 points

Total = 298.5 points

Step Three:  Divide your total points by the total amount of points possible.

298.5 points / 400 points = 0.7463

Step Four:  4.0 x 0.7463 = 2.9850

Step Five:  Find your 2.9850 score on the 4.0 grading scale.  The corresponding letter would be your grade.

4.0 = A

3.7 = A-

3.3 = B+

3.0 = B
2.9850

2.7 = B-

2.3 = C+

2.0 = C

1.7 = C-

1.3 = D+

1.0 = D

0.7 = D-

0.0 = F
